First came the smart car and the smart phone. Now there’s the smart table. U.S. technology companies Ideum and 3M have joined forces to develop a supersized tablet computer that also functions as a coffee table.
The Multitouch Coffee Table comes in 32-inch and 46-inch models and responds to up to 60 simultaneous touches, making it ideal for group games or work projects. Chemically strengthened to support mugs and plates, the tablet’s glass surface is water resistant so there’s no need to panic over accidental spills. The tablet comes installed with Windows 8, allowing users to access thousands of apps, surf the web, watch movies and enjoy all the other features of a tablet. A new version running on the Android operating system will hit the market this summer. With prices starting at $6,950, it’s more expensive than most coffee tables, but surely a lot more fun.
